introduction
AlrtMe
is a notification service for
Flickr users. The aim of
service is notify registered user, when his photo is in the Interestingness
page of Flickr (Explore). The notify happened by email sending.
The service
is free of charge and it can be freely used. It was developed using Flickr
API (Application Program Interface).
To enjoy the use of service you must specify email used to register on Flickr.
AlrtMe
will use this email only to send notification for the photos which are turned up
it, for the first time only, in the Interestingness page. No other use will be
make of this email.

The
AlrtMe
is not Flickr product and Flickr hasn't ordered it.
How interestingness works?
Every days thousands Flickr users watch photos of their contacts, their groups
belong to or through tag searching. So they change the value of interest, which
gives Flickr same. By means of algorithm, that only flickr developers knows,a
photo can go up or down interest raging, changing, continuously, the first 500
photos most interesting of the day.
"There are lots of elements that make something 'interesting' (or not) on Flickr.
Where the clickthroughs are coming from; who comments on it and when; who marks
it as a favorite; its tags and many more things which are constantly changing.
Interestingness changes over time, as more and more fantastic content and
stories are added to Flickr

This is the main reason that a photo can enter and get out from this list.
How AlrtMe works?
Un software, appositamente scritto, controlla tutte le 500 foto della sezione
Interestingness di Flickr, per ogni giorno a partire dal giorno prima,
procedendo all'indietro, sino alla data di partenza del servizio per poi
riprendere nuovamente la verifica dal giorno che precede la data di fine
controllo (ad es. oggi è il 21 Aprile? Il software controlla le foto della
sezione Interestingness a partire dal 20 Aprile, proseguendo, poi, al controllo
del giorno precedente, 19 Aprile, e cosi' via fino alla data limite configurata
nel sistema. Supponendo che il ciclo completo sia stato raggiunto il 23 Aprile,
il software riprende l'analisi dal giorno precedente, ovvero il 22 Aprile,
secondo le modalita precedentemente descritte).
Quando il servizio trova una foto
che appartiene ad un utente
AlrtMe
e, questa foto è comparsa per la prima volta nella sezione Interestingness,
invia un'email al suo autore. Questa contiene il riferimento alla pagina della
foto, la data di upload e la posizione nella lista delle 500 foto.
Come gia'
detto, la foto potrebbe uscire dalla sezione per poi rientrarvi.
AlrtMe,
in questo caso, non spedisce piu' l'email, per evitare che l'utente ne sia
tempestato a causa delle continue variazioni.
